Birth.
9:27 AMDear Karleigh,
After almost ten months of pregnancy it's safe to say I was ready for you to get here! I wanted to hold this sweet girl that I already would do anything for. So your due date came and went and still no baby. I did everything possible to induce labor.. ate pine apple, walking, bouncing... you were stubborn! So Dr and I decided that we needed to induce you on February 28 at 4 pm. Well at 4pm daddy called and there were no beds available so we called every hour until 1am when we were finally able to come in and start the long process of having you!
New nurse, again, she was awesome. At 3:15pm Dr orders round 2 cervadil because it worked so well the first time. So at 4pm I start cervadil again. At 6pm contractions around 3-4 mins apart & getting stronger! At 7:40pm I got pain meds and sleep meds. At 1am 2nd cervadil was taken out. At 2am the baby's heart rate started dropping so they put me on oxygen. My awesome nurse and husband talked me into an epideral at 3:30am. Then at 4am they start pitocin and at 5:30am put in my catheter. Well after checking me at 5am the pitocin had done nothing, same at 6am. I was stuck at 4cm. So they turn down the pitocin for a while and I start dilating again do they left it down.
Then it was time for a nurse change again. Barbara was her name. My husband was holding my epi button and every time that it would flash he pressed it. Like the first nurse told us. It just gave you a little more than the steady flow (but a safe amount) well nurse Barbara took the epi button away and said I didn't need it. She was rude. So at 8:10am my epideral started to wear off the left half of my body leaving me with excruciating contractions. (forgot to mention that in the midst of all this I'm still on oxygen and baby's heart rate was only okay if I laid on my right side!!! Scary stuff) so they fixed my epi but didn't give back the button. Again at 915am they had to fix my epi.
At 10am Barbara checks me and I was 9-10cm dilated with a lip! So she makes me push through the lip. The left half was wearing off again. Well I may have been 10cm but I cervix was high and baby was turned where her face was facing the side. So at 10:52am the nurse has me start pushing. 15 mins in my right shoulder starts spasms and hurts like hell. Worse than the contractions. Keep in mind I feel every contraction and every single spasm. Worst pain ever. The nurse has me continue to push and tries different positions but I never felt the need to push until an hour or so in. Well after pushing for an hour and a half she was suppose to call my Dr to come bc the hospitals policy is a c section after 2 hours of pushing. She didn't call Dr Whitaker until almost 2 hours in even though I begged her to call him bc she was the worst coach/nurse/human ever. He gets there at 1:10pm. I'm tellin you he walked in holding all this machinery and weird objects and I'm crying through the pain tears of Joy because this man is like my knight in shining armor. He comes in and is all business. Not his normal funny self. So I scream please get her out!!! And he says alright Kayla let's have a baby. He tries to get her out with forcepts but she wasn't even crowning so that didn't work. He gets out the vacuum machine and hooks it up, Barbara was in control of the gage. She kept letting it slip so he yelled at her to do her job. She let it slip AGAIN and I thought he was gunna punch her. Finally he's tugging and pulling and I'm screaming in agonizing pain and 3 contractions later at 1:21pm he pulled Karleigh out of me. Then handed her to the other nurse because I was bleeding so bad. Well finally everything gets taken care of and I held her 30 mins later and it was the best moment ever. 21.5 inches long and 8 lbs 12 ounces. In the video you can hear my Dr say she's a haus when she comes out. At 3pm I got in my new room and got to really enjoy my little angel. We were in the hospital until 415pm on 3/3/12. And all of our family came to see us and welcome baby Karleigh Piper Reeder.
Love,
Mommy
