Emmett's Birth Story

2:03 PM

We got to the hospital at 6pm where we were going to start cervadil. Once I was hooked up to the monitors, they saw I was already having some contractions every 4 minutes. I was 2cm and 50% effaced. So they put in the cervadil, and it fell out after I went to the bathroom a couple hours later. I was already 3cm and 80% effaced & my contractions were more regular so we didn't both putting it back in.

I labored naturally until 6am. I was praying and meditating and reading The Word and I was doing okay, I was getting through each contraction in my own world. At 6am my doctor came in to check me and break my water! I was only 3cm. He went ahead and broke my water. After that my contractions were every 30seconds-1minute for about 1minute and doubled in intensity. My body was shaking uncontrollably and I wasn't able to maintain control so I requested an epideral at 7am. This was THE BEST epideral, ever. I could still move my legs but I could no longer feel any contractions.

So after 1.5 hours of some pretty intense contractions according to the monitor my awesome nurse checked me. At 8:33am I was 10 cm dilated and fully effaced with baby coming down lower with every contraction! My nurse and I decided to let my body move the baby down and when I felt an urge, I'd start pushing. At 9:09 she said I should take a couple practice pushes.. Each of the 8 pushes brought Emmett closer to being born, so she stopped me & called my dr. They moved a mirror so I could watch my son be born. My dr walked in & looked disappointed, he thought this was going to take a while. I laughed. I had never felt more amazing than in that moment. As he got his gloves he told me to start pushing.. As I pushed Emmett shot out.. So he yelled at me to stop.. Which I did, very quickly.

His little head went back in a little.. Then my dr got ready and said to push (we didn't bother waiting on a contraction) one very intense push later my baby was laying on my chest screaming the sweetest sound! We delayed cord clamping & everyone oowed and Ahhed over Emmett. After a few minutes, Justin cut the cord & we delivered the placenta while I held my baby. I had one small stitch and my dr was done. After Karleigh's very long, tiring, ridiculous birth this was a breeze. I was in active labor for 2.5 hours and pushed for 16 minutes. It was the easiest, most amazing experience, ever.
